Ground cinnamon is basically cinnamon sticks (from Cinnamomum trees) that have been ground into a spice.

I like how there are so many uses for this popular spice.

    • Optional Add-ins Including granular sugar, granular sugar alternative, ground nutmeg, or even ground ginger.

Tips for making the best ground cinnamon.

When selecting cinnamon sticks to use in this recipe, look for cinnamon sticks that are fresh and are a deep reddish-brown color. Also, the sticks should be firm and slightly oily and have a strong scent.

    1. Average sized sticks were used in making my ground cinnamon. That would be about the size of your pinky finger in circumference.
    2. A spice grinder was used to grind up my sticks. Alternative grinders that can be used include a good high powered blender or a Mortar and Pestle.
    3. However, a food processor will not work as well as it cannot break the sticks down to the right consistency.
    4. Toasting your cinnamon sticks can enhance their flavor for a better tasting ground cinnamon.
    5. Clearly label your container with the ingredients and date of creation.
    6. Don't forget to store this in an airtight container to keep it fresh.
