This Air Fryer Churros Recipe offers a healthier alternative to frying this tasty pastry in oil.
These homemade churros are sweet and crisp on the outside and soft and fluffy on the inside.
Churros made in an air fryer.
These homemade churros have a dough that is made similarly to the original oil fried recipe.
However, baking them in an air fryer takes the oil out of the churros, making them a healthier alternative.

Tips for making the best air fryer churros.
The first step in making this recipe is boiling ingredients. This is done to help activate the gluten and make it easier to pipe as well as make the dough fluffy on the inside. As a result, this is an important step in the process of making this recipe.
More helpful tips for you.
- If you decide to prep your fryer basket, simply take it out of the air fryer and use a small amount of avocado or canola oil (high smoke point) before returning the basket to your air fryer.
- Liners for air fryers typically do not work well in this recipe.
- If you are unsure about using a piping bag/tip, try using a cookie press (I have not tried this method with churros).
- Refrigerating the dough before air frying helps to set the dough. I would not refrigerate the dough for more than a half hour though.
- These churros are really best when served fresh.

Equipment
Instructions
Make the dough.
- In a medium saucepan on medium heat, heat the water, butter, and sugar. Bring the mixture to a boil while carefully stirring it.
- Once the mixture in the saucepan begins to boil, bump the heat down to low and use a rubber spatula to stir in the flour and cinnamon. Continue to stir the ingredients until it is smooth and thickened. Then remove the saucepan from the heat and let it cool for five minutes.
- When the ingredients have cooled for the amount of time you can transfer the ingredients to a large mixing bowl.
- Add the eggs to the mixing bowl and beat or stir until the ingredients are combined and a dough ball begins to form.
Pipe the churros.
- Prepare a rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper. Then transfer the dough to a piping bag outfitted with a star tip.
- Pipe the churros in 3 to 4" pieces (depending on the size of your fryer basket so that they will fit). You can use a kitchen scissors or knife to cut the churros from the dough if needed.
- Refrigerate the piped dough for 15 minutes to help them set.
Finish making the churros
- While the dough is chilling you can blend together the remaining cinnamon and sugar in a shallow bowl. Also, preheat your air fryer to 375 and prep the basket as desired.
- Transfer the churros to the air fryer basket, leaving about a half inch between them for the air to circulate.
- Air fry the churros until they turn golden brown (cooking times can vary depending on the size of your churros and your air fryer).
- Carefully dip each of the warm churros into the shallow bowl with cinnamon sugar and serve.
