How to Make Easy Churro Donut Holes

Easy Air Fryer Churro Donut Holes, an easy 4 Ingredient recipe made with refrigerated biscuit dough in under 15 minutes.

    • Prep Time 10 minutes .
    • Air Fry Time 8 minutes .
    • Servings 24 donut holes .
    • How to serve : Serve warm with coffee or milk, or enjoy cold the next day as a snack.
    • Notes: You will need a clean workspace such as a cutting board, a bowl, and a whisk. For prep, you can lightly spray your air fryer basket with oil.

    1. Prepare. You can preheat your air fryer at 350°F and spray or prep the basket for nonstick. My donut holes were made on a foil lining that was sprayed.
    2. Dough. Remove the biscuit dough from the container and cut each of the biscuits in half. Roll each of the halves between your hands into a ball.
    3. Air Fry. Carefully place each of the balls of dough into your air fryer, leaving room between them for the air to circulate. Air fry for four minutes, shake the basket to rotate the balls, and continue to air fry until the donut holes are golden brown (about two to four more minutes).
    4. Coating. Place the melted butter into a small bowl. In a more shallow bowl, use a whisk or fork to combine together the sugar and ground cinnamon. While the donut holes are still warm, use a fork or similar item to first dip each of the holes into the butter, tap off the excess butter, and then dip the holes into the cinnamon sugar to coat, tapping off excess when done.
    5. Serve. Serve your homemade donut holes as is or with a caramel or other dip on the side for dipping.

Tips for making the best biscuit dough donut holes

When selecting a biscuit dough to use, regular homestyle or buttermilk varieties work best in this recipe for texture and flavor. Pillsbury Grands! Southern Homestyle Biscuits, Pillsbury Buttermilk Biscuits or store-brand regular buttermilk biscuits can work in this recipe. Avoid using flaky layer biscuits, extra buttery or layered styles.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Make sure that the dough balls are a similar size. This will allow for even cooking.
    2. When placing the rolled dough into the air fryer basket, leave space between each of the dough balls for the air to properly circulate. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to make this recipe in batches.
    3. Keep an eye on the donut holes after about six minutes of air frying. Depending on your air fryer and the size of your donut holes, they may be done air frying at that time.

    FAQ

    • Can I make these ahead of time?
These churro donut holes are best enjoyed fresh and warm, but you can make them a few hours ahead and reheat them in the air fryer for 1–2 minutes before serving.
    • Do I have to spray my air fryer basket with oil?
It is recommended that you lightly spray the air fryer basket to help prevent sticking and to ensure an even golden crust on the donut holes. Be sure to take the basket out of the air fryer to spray it first.
    • Why do I need to preheat the air fryer?
Preheating helps the donut holes cook more evenly and gives them a crispier exterior. It is recommended if your air fryer model requires it.
    • How do I know when the donut holes are done cooking?
The donut holes should be golden brown on the outside and cooked through in the center. If you are unsure, you can cut one of the donut holes open to check.
    • Can I bake these instead of air frying?
Yes. Bake them in a preheated oven at 375°F for about 10–12 minutes or until golden brown, then coat with the butter and cinnamon sugar.

    Variations.

    • Make these into Stuffed Donut Holes by filling the centers with Nutella, dulce de leche, cream cheese frosting, or fruit jam using a piping bag after cooking.
    • Coat these with Powdered Sugar instead of the cinnamon sugar.
    • Take these donut holes up a notch by adding a pinch of cayenne pepper into the cinnamon sugar for a sweet and spicy churro flavor.

How to store homemade churro donut holes.

Once the donut holes have fully cooled they can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, they should keep for up to two days at room temperature, up to five days when refrigerated, or up to two months when frozen. You can reheat the donut holes in your air fryer at 325°F for 2–3 minutes until warm and slightly crisp again or microwave for 10-15 seconds.
