What is slow cooker Chex Mix?

Slow cooker Chex Mix is a cereal based snack idea that is made in a slow cooker or crockpot rather than baked in an oven.

I like how slow cooking this snack recipe is so easy to do.

Have you tried my Air Fryer Everything Bagel Chips

Those bagel chips are also a delicious crunchy snack that can be made in an air fryer. Both this snack mix and those bagel chips would go great when served together for your next snack adventure.

Make clean-up even easier by using a liner for your slow cooker. You can find a selection of slow cooker or crockpot liners here.

Why we love snack mix made in a Crockpot .

This is basically a dump and go snack mix recipe.
You simply dump the ingredients into your slow cooker and then let the slow cooker do the work.

Here is what else we like about this recipe.

    • Clean up is a breeze as you are only using your slow cooker to make this recipe.
    • Making this recipe yourself means that you know everything that goes into it.
    • Personalizing this snack is as simple as adding chocolate candy or using another kind of cereal.
    • Chex mix is a great tasting crunchy snack that about everyone can agree on
    • Leftovers can be enjoyed as is or combined in a bowl of popcorn
    • This is the perfect snack to put out at parties, movie night, or backyard barbecues.

Ingredients needed to make slow cooker snack mix.

    • Chex Cereal. Rice Chex is my choice however, Corn Chex or other flavors could also work in this recipe.
    • Pretzel Mini Twists . For additional crunch.
    • Nuts. Mixed nuts or the nuts of your choice.
    • Butter. Your butter should be melted using the method of your choice.
    • Ranch Dressing Mix. Save yourself some money and make your own Ranch Seasoning using this Recipe
    • Onion Powder and Garlic Powder. Added for a bit more savory flavor.

Tips for making the best Slow Cooker Chex Mix.

My snack mix was made in a large slow cooker. If you are using a medium or small cooker you should consider cutting the recipe so that the mix has enough space to slow cook and get crispy.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Adding additional ingredients, such a chocolate candies, is almost always a fun idea. However, some add ins, such as chocolate or holiday themed candy, can melt so it is best to add them to a cooled snack mix rather than in the slow cooker itself.
    2. Crunchy add-ins are great for personalizing your snack mix. I like crackers such as oyster crackers or potato sticks.
    3. Using real butter is essential to the flavor of this recipe. While you may be tempted to use margarine or an alternative, real butter has the best flavor for this one.
    4. Seasoning is also a key ingredient that should not be skimped on. You can use a low salt seasoning instead of the ranch seasoning if needed.
    5. If your lid is on your slow cooker gathers condensation while slow cooking, you can remove the lid for a short time to allow the mix to dry out or place a clean paper towel under the lid to soak up the condensation.
    6. Can this recipe be made in an oven? This is a smaller batch recipe that can be easily made in an oven baked at 250 until crisp (45-50 minutes).

How to make Crockpot Chex Mix

    Prep Time : 15 minutes .
Slow Cook Time : 2 hours on low .
    Servings: 24.

    1. Dry Ingredients. Combine together your cereal, pretzels, mixed nuts, and any similar optional crunchy elements in your slow cooker.
    2. Butter. Use a small whisk or fork to combine together the melted butter with the seasonings (ranch seasoning, onion powder, and garlic powder).
    3. Toss. Pour half of the butter mixture over the crunchy ingredients in the slow cooker and toss the ingredients. Repeat this process with the remaining butter mixture.
    4. Slow Cook. Cover and slow cook your mix on low for two hours or until crunchy, stopping to stir about every 30 minutes so that the ingredients slow cook uniformly.
    5. Cool. Allow the mix to cool before serving.

Expert Tip 👉 You can cool your mix on a rimmed baking sheet lined with clean paper towels or parchment paper to help soak up excess grease if desired. Doing this also allows the Chex mix to completely dry out and become more crispy.
