What makes creamy ham and corn soup so good?

Creamy ham and corn soup is good because it is a hearty soup that is loaded with chunks of ham, potatoes, and corn in a rich and savory creamy chowder.

I like that this chowder is the perfect way to use up leftover ham and that it can be easily and conveniently made in a slow cooker.

Tips for making the best Slow Cooker Ham and Corn Chowder

The ham that is used in this recipe should already be cooked. This is the perfect recipe for leftover ham or deli ham that is cut into chunks as they are already smoky and tender from being cooked.

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Starchy potatoes, such as Russet or Yukon Gold, can help to thicken this soup. Red potatoes, on the other hand, will hold their shape better if you are looking for potato structure.
    2. The thickening, or slurry, ingredients are added to the slow cooker later (last 30 minutes of slow cooking) than the other ingredients to avoid clumping . You can slow cook on high after adding the slurry to help it thicken.
    3. If your soup seems to be getting too thick after 20 minutes after adding the thickener you can whisk in additional heavy cream. If it appears to be too thin you can remove the lid and allow the soup to slow cook uncovered.

How to Store Leftover Ham and Corn Chowder

Once your soup has fully cooled it can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, ham and corn chowder should keep for up to four days when refrigerated or up to a few months frozen. Note that using heavy cream works best in this recipe if you intend to freeze it.
