Tips for making the best Hot Honey Chicken Wings
This chicken in this recipe is baked twice- once with the rub and then with the hot honey sauce. You can use the same baking sheet to bake the chicken however, for the second baking the chicken will need to be on a rack such as a wire baking rack.
More helpful tips for you.
- Use a clean paper towel to pat the chicken dry before adding the rub. Moisture can make it hard for the rub to stick to the chicken.
- Feel free to use your own chicken rub instead of my recipe for rub.
- The hot honey sauce can be made while the chicken is baking in the oven the first time. Just make sure that the sauce has cooled down enough to work with.
- For the second baking, the wire rack is used to help the chicken get crisp. Your wire rack should be oven-safe.
- Take your chicken up a notch with add-ins such as a chopped jalapeño pepper, ground ginger, or a teaspoon of orange juice.
- While this recipe was made with chicken wings, you can also make it with other parts of the chicken. Chicken thighs or legs can work well in this recipe.

Expert Tip👉 I find it to be a good idea to wear food grade gloves when I am working with ingredients such as hot sauce. Hot sauce can stain so you may want to avoid getting it on your clothes as well.
How to store chicken wings.
Once your chicken wings have fully cooled, they can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, cooked chicken wings can keep for up to four days when refrigerated and up to three months when frozen.
