Tips for making the best taco soup.
This soup can be made as mild or as spicy or hot as you want to make it. For a bit of heat, you can add a bit of hot sauce or chopped jalapeño.
More helpful tips for you.
- To make this recipe vegan, use a vegan friendly ground beef alternative and a vegan broth.
- Cook your beef in a skillet and drain out as much fat as possible to keep the fat out of your soup. You can add the diced onions to the skillet for more flavor.
- Use canned beans in this recipe for easy and because they are already prepared. Make sure that you beans are drained and rinsed however before adding them to the slow cooker.
- Basic canned tomato sauce makes this recipe nice and easy. However, you can use a flavored sauce or a similar tomato product (I sometimes use crushed tomatoes to make soup!).

- Lastly, feel free to toss in additional ingredients such as peas or mixed vegetables for even more goodness.
How to make Slow Cooker Taco Soup
Prep Time: 10 minutes .
Slow Cook Time: 3 to 8 hours depending on the heat level used.

- Prepare . Prepare your ingredients as indicated. This include browning your meat and rinsing your beans.
- Beef. Place your browned ground beef into your slow cooker, spreading it out evenly over the bottom of the pot. Then sprinkle your taco seasoning over the ground beef.
- Ingredients. Top your ground beef with your onion, garlic, beans and corn. Then stir the ingredients to combine.
- Sauce and broth. Stir in the sauce and broth so that the ingredients are combined.
- Slow Cook. Cover your slow cooker and slow cook on low for six to eight hours or on high for three to four hours.
- Serve. Serve your soup as desired. Popular topping include shredded cheese, sour cream, tortilla strips, green onions, with chips on the side.
Expert Tip👉 Stir your ingredients occasionally as needed. Towards the last hour of slow cooking it is a good idea to keep an eye on things. You can turn your slow cooker down to low or 'keep warm setting' if needed.
How to store homemade taco soup.
Once your soup has fully cooled, it can be stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, taco soup should keep for about five days when refrigerated or frozen for up to a few months (you can use a freezer zip top bag).
