What are air fryer nachos?
Simply stated, air fryer nachos are nachos that are cooked in an air fryer.
Like with most nachos, these nachos feature a layering of tortilla chips, cheese, warm toppings (meat etc.), and cold toppings (sour cream etc.).
Did you try my recipe for Air Fryer Beef Fajitas?
Made with fresh vegetables and meat, those tasty fajitas are colorful and taste just like the restaurant version. Both this recipe for nachos and those fajitas would go perfectly when served together!
Taco seasoning was used to cook the meat used in making my nachos. You can find a selection of taco seasonings here.
Why we love homemade nachos.
These nachos can be served as a meal in itself. Adding additional toppings can make these nachos even more filling and satisfying.
Here is what else we like about this recipe.
- Nachos are as simple as cheese and tortilla chips.
- This recipe can be made in about 10 minutes.
- Customizing nachos is as easy as adding a few veggies on top or using a variety of cheeses.
- Making these nachos in an air fryer makes this recipe a breeze to clean up.

- Nachos are close to being a foolproof to make recipe.
Ingredients needed to make nachos.
Certain ingredients used in this recipe can be added as warm ingredients (cooked with the nachos- like my nachos), cold ingredients (added on top of the cooked ingredients), or added for both air frying and as a topping.
- Tortilla Chips. This is the base of the nachos that everything else will be layered over.
- Ground Beef. While this is optional, it is used to make taco meat. Ground turkey, vegan ground beef, or a similar product can be used.
- Taco Seasoning. Used for seasoning the meat as it cooks.
- Olive Oil. For cooking the meat.
- Cheese. Cheddar, Colby Jack, Mexican blend, or a combination of cheeses. The cheese should be shredded or grated.
- Black Beans. Also optional, the beans should be rinsed and drained first. My beans were added as a warm ingredient, air fried with the chips and cheese.
- Tomato. I like Roma tomatoes for this recipe as they are sturdy and flavorful. The tomato should be diced. It can also be used as a warm or cool ingredient.
- Green Onion. Diced small and added as a warm or cool ingredient.
- Jalapeno Pepper. Stem and seeds removed before dicing.
- Other cold topping (added after air frying) ingredients include sour cream, guacamole, cilantro, olives, salsa, and really whatever else you want to add.

Tips for making the best loaded nachos.
Using sturdy tortilla chips is really the key to making good nachos as the tortilla chips will be holding everything else while you are enjoying this recipe. Select large and sturdy chips, such as restaurant style, that are intact.

More helpful tips for you.
- A quick and easy cheat for this recipe it so use precooked meat or leftovers from another meal.
- Line your air fryer basket with air fryer safe parchment paper that is extended up a bit on the sides. This will make for both an easier removal of the nachos for serving and for an easier clean up for you.
- When placing your chips into the basket, do so in a single layer rather than overcrowding the chips. This will help the nachos cook evenly while keeping your chips crunchy.
- Drain your cooked meat, beans, and other ingredients well before layering the ingredients on top of the chips. This can also help to keep the chips firm and crispy.
- The tomatoes, beans, diced tomatoes, jalapenos, and green onions can be added as a warm ingredients (air fried), cool ingredients (after air frying) or as both.
- As you probably already know, nachos are extremely easy to personalize to your likings. This means that you do not have to make them exactly as my nachos were made. The key is to get the cheese melted on crispy chips and add additional ingredients as desired.

Expert Tip 👉 To serve the nachos on a plate or similar item, carefully use the extended parchment paper to lift the nachos out of the air fryer basket and transfer.
How to store nachos.
Nachos are really best when served warm and fresh. If you do have leftovers, it is best to not add the wet ingredients such as sour cream until you are ready to serve the nachos as wet ingredients will make the chips soggy. You can however store the air fried chips and cheese in an airtight container or wrapped in foil for up to a couple of days in your refrigerator .
