- Potatoes. Russet potatoes were used to air fry my potatoes. Your potato should be cleaned using the method of your choice (such as running water) and then dried.
- Olive Oil. Another oil, such as avocado oil, can be used instead.
- Salt. Kosher salt is used to salt the potato skin.
- Optional Toppings: Butter, Sour Cream, Shredded Cheese, Bacon Bits, Chili, and Chopped Green Onion.

Tips for making the best air fried baked potato.
The best potatoes to use in this recipe have a higher starch content that can allow them to become crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Russet potatoes are the best ones to use however, Yukon gold are an all purpose potato that can work in this recipe as well.
More helpful tips for you.
- Olive oil helps the skin on the potato crisp and helps the salt stick. Feel free to use your favorite neutral cooking oil.
- Kosher salt creates that crisp salty potato skin that we all love! For best results, use a course sale such as kosher salt or sea salt, and not regular table salt.
- I like to soak my potatoes and then scrub off the excess dirt before air frying them. Be sure to pay your potatoes dry before applying the oil and sal.
- If you are air frying more than one potato time, leave plenty of room between them in the air fryer. This will allow for the air to circulate around the potatoes so that they can evenly cook
- Use a fork to poke several holes in the potato before placing it into your air fryer basket to allow the steam to escape while air frying.
- Lastly, allow the potato to cool a bit before slicing as it will be hot inside and there will be steam.
How to make Air Fryer Baked Potato.
Prep Time : 5 minutes .
Air Fry Time: 45 minutes .
Servings: 4, or as many as you need .
- Prepare your potato. Clean your potato to remove any dirt and remove any objects that may be attached to it. Also, use a clean kitchen towel or paper towel to pat the potato dry. Then use a fork to poke at least five holes into the potato for the steam to escape.
- Season. Use a pastry brush or similar item to brush the oil over the potato(es). Then sprinkle the salt over the potato so that the skin is coated.
- Air Fry. Place your potato(es) into your air fryer basket, leaving room between potatoes for air to circulate. Air fry 400F for 20 minutes. Then flip the potatoes and cook them for an additional 20-25 minutes, or until the potatoes are fork tender.
- Serve. Use a tong or similar item to carefully remove the potatoes from your air fryer. Let the potatoes cool a bit before slicing them lengthwise. You can pinch the sliced ends to open up the potatoes.
- Top. Add any optional ingredients as a topping and enjoy your potatoes!
Expert Tip 👉 You can insert a fork into the potato to check for doneness. If it goes in easily, your potato is done.
How to store baked potatoes.
Once your potato has fully cooled, it can be wrapped in foil or stored in an airtight container. When properly stored, baked potatoes should keep for up to five days when refrigerated or frozen for up to three months. Note that this applies to potatoes that have not been topped with optional ingredients.
