What are air fried potato chips?

Air fried potato chips are thinly sliced potatoes that are seasoned and then cooked in an air fryer.

I like these chips are not cooked in oil like store-bought chips are.

Ingredients needed to make barbecue potato chips.

The best kind of potatoes for this recipe are potatoes that are starchy and can hold up to being sliced and cooked. I like russet, Idaho, or even Yukon gold potatoes for this recipe.

    • Potatoes. The potatoes should be scrubbed since the skins will stay on.
    • Brown Sugar. Used for that sweet balance in barbecue flavors.
    • Chili Powder, Onion Powder, and Garlic Powder. For the spicy and flavorful elements.
    • Paprika. Gives these chips that smokey flavor.
    • Salt A small amount added for a flavor balance.
    • You will also need oil, such as olive oil, in a sprayer or brushed on using a pastry brush.

Tips for making the best barbecue potato chips.

While not required for this recipe, you can choose to soak your potatoes to remove excess starch (this can prevent soggy chips). Simply soak the potato slices in a bowl of cold water for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. Then drain and pat the potatoes dry to remove the excess water

    More helpful tips for you.

    1. Russet potatoes that are sliced thin will become more crisp. On the other hand, for a denser, slightly sweet chip, you can use Yukon Golds.
    2. When you slice your potatoes, slice them to 1/16" to ⅛" thick.
    3. Using a mandoline to slice your potatoes will ensure uniform potato slices and more uniform cooking.
    4. Toss (using tongs) or shake the basket with the potato slices at about halfway through baking (about seven minutes). This helps to keep the chips from sticking together and helps them bake more evenly.
    5. When you transfer the chips from the air fryer to cool make sure that they are spread out rather than stacked on top of one another.
    6. Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to make this recipe in batches.

    3. Remove the basket from your air fryer and lightly spray it with oil. Preheat your air fryer to 300°f.
    4. Place the potato slices into your basket so that the edges of the potatoes are touching.

Expert Tip👉 Depending on the size of your air fryer and the thickness of your potato slices, air frying times can vary. It is best to keep an eye on your chips while they are air frying
